The McLaren man struggled at times with his MP4-27, which was uncompetitive for a vast chunk of the season.
With Lewis Hamilton’s departure, Button will be number one within the team and Warwick feels that this will bring the best out of him:
“Winning the fifteenth race of his career in Brazil was the perfect way for him to finish his season,” he told The Daily Star.
“I’m convinced Jenson will develop as team leader [in 2013].
“I’m not saying Lewis was holding him back – but he will now lead that team from the front.
“He will get stronger and better but he will need to because he has lagged behind Lewis for most of this year in terms of pace.”
